Laugh Factory, the famous standup comedy club in Los Angeles is the subject of a lawsuit filed recently with the Los Angeles Superior Court. The lawsuit was filed as an employment class action, alleging that the Laugh Factory violated numerous California Labor Code sections.
The class action was filed on August 13, 2019 on behalf of a former employee of the Laugh Factory. The Plaintiff is represented by the California employment law attorneys of JCL Law Firm, APC and Zakay Law Group, APC.
The Laugh Factory operates a comedy club with a bar and a restaurant in Long Beach, which is located in Los Angeles County. According to the complaint, the club’s employees, including those working for the bar and restaurant, were subjected to various violations of California employment laws.
Specifically, the class action alleges that the Laugh Factory failed to pay its employees minimum wages and overtime wages, failed to provide its employees with compliant meal breaks and rest breaks, failed to provide its employees with accurate pay-statements, and failed to pay its terminated employees with all wages owed upon termination. The lawsuit also alleges that this conduct constitutes an unfair business practice in violation of the California Business and Professions Code, as well as a violation of the Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA).
The complaint seeks monetary damages for the unpaid wages and missed meal and rest breaks. The complaint further seeks monetary penalties for the inaccurate pays statements and Laugh Factory’s failure to pay its terminated employees timely. Finally, the complaint seeks a court order compelling the defendant to bring its policies into compliance with California labor laws.
